Build a new clinical skillset with a structured, hands-on approach to Myofunctional Therapy designed for dental hygienists.

This hybrid Myofunctional Therapy program for dental hygienists combines live online learning with in-person training to help you confidently assess, plan, and implement therapy in practice.

Program Overview

Oral health is airway health. This program uses the Dental Hygiene Process of Care to guide the identification and treatment of Orofacial Myofunctional Disorders (OMDs).

Participants will develop the knowledge and clinical confidence to begin integrating Myofunctional Therapy into patient care at an entry level.

By the end of the program, participants will be able to:

Identify and assess Orofacial Myofunctional Disorders using a structured clinical approach (Analyze/Apply).
Apply knowledge of head and neck anatomy, airway function, and related systems to support diagnosis and care planning (Apply).
Develop individualized, client-centered treatment plans for Myofunctional Therapy (Create).
Implement therapy techniques and interventions to support functional improvement (Apply).
Evaluate patient progress and adapt care plans within a collaborative healthcare model (Evaluate).
Integrate Myofunctional Therapy into dental hygiene practice with confidence and clinical clarity (Apply).

Program Structure

This 30-hour program includes:

7 weeks of live online training (interactive evening sessions)
2 days of in-person hands-on training at rdhu

Each component includes clearly defined learning objectives to support step-by-step skill development.

Schedule Overview

Part One: Live Online Training

Thursday evenings from September 24 to November 12, 2026 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM EST

No session the week of October 15. Sessions resume October 22.

Sessions are interactive and designed for live participation. Recordings are available for 30 days if needed.

Part Two: In-Person Training

Saturday, November 21 & Sunday, November 22, 2026 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM EST

Hands-on training takes place at rdhu in Burlington, ON. A light breakfast and catered lunch will be provided.

What You’ll Learn

Program content includes:

Anatomy, Physiology, and Pathophysiology Understanding head and neck structures, airway function, and related systems
Assessment & Treatment Planning Identifying OMDs and building patient-specific care plans
Therapy Interventions Practical techniques and exercises for treatment
Evaluation & Clinical Integration Monitoring progress and incorporating therapy into a collaborative care model

Upon Completion

Participants will feel confident implementing Myofunctional Therapy within their clinical practice.

Registered Dental Hygienists will receive a Certificate of Completion and training to begin practicing as a Myofunctional Therapist.

Completion of The Mysteries of Myofunctional Therapy (6-hour online course) is required prior to enrollment.
