This 2-day orthodontic CE course for dental hygienists provides practical skills you can apply immediately in clinical settings and throughout your career.

3 Part Orthodontic Series available! Includes 'Orthodontic Fundamentals for the Dental Hygienist', Advanced Orthodontics for the Dental Hygienist' , and 'Digital Scanners & Clear Aligner Therapy: Aligners, Attachments, and AI'

Course Overview

Participants will gain a strong foundation in orthodontics while developing hands-on skills that support safe, efficient, and confident patient care.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

Identify key stages of the orthodontic journey, from initial patient exam through retention (Understand/Apply).
Apply knowledge of the dental hygiene scope of practice within orthodontic care (Apply).
Differentiate foundational orthodontic terminology and concepts used in clinical settings (Understand/Apply).
Demonstrate proper techniques for taking orthodontic records and understand their clinical importance (Apply).
Analyze classes of occlusion and their relevance to treatment planning (Analyze).
Explain and apply the components of orthodontic appliances, including brackets and bands, with proper placement techniques (Apply).
Select and use appropriate wire types and sequencing for foundational orthodontic movements (Apply).
Evaluate real-life orthodontic cases to strengthen clinical decision-making (Analyze/Evaluate).

Hands-On Learning Experience

Participants will rotate through guided stations with one-on-one coaching:

Station I: Bracket placement and band fitting using a range of sizes for proper selection
Station II: Wire fitting and placement, including ligation techniques (power chain, steel, individual ligatures)
Station III: Fabrication and bonding of lingual retainer wire

Additional activities include bracket identification, terminology review, and hands-on use of orthodontic instruments.

A take-home manual and orthodontic job-sharing checklist are included.
